The NetApp AFF A300 remains a capable all-flash platform for VDI, general virtualization, and Tier 1–2 workloads when its operational condition, ONTAP posture, and dependency map are understood. Azroth provides independent third-party maintenance and lifecycle support from former NetApp Technical and Escalation Support engineers—helping your team operate the A300 confidently beyond an OEM support decision without positioning that choice as a replacement for NetApp.

Why customers extend this platform

An AFF A300 often has useful performance and availability life remaining after a support-renewal or refresh conversation begins. If latency, capacity, HA behavior, replication, and recovery objectives remain aligned with the workload, a measured extension can defer a disruptive migration and preserve a known operating model. That matters as OEM renewal and refresh costs rise alongside industry-wide chip and component cost inflation. The goal is not to avoid lifecycle planning; it is to create time and options so lifecycle budget can be allocated where it reduces the most business risk.

What we support

  • Remote technical triage for AFF A300 controller, chassis, boot-device, SSD, and shelf symptoms.
  • HA-pair health assessment, takeover/giveback diagnosis, interconnect and mailbox-disk checks, and failover readiness review.
  • ONTAP 9.x operational troubleshooting within the version range supported by the installed A300 hardware and its attached components; release-specific compatibility is validated before a change is recommended.
  • SSD, spare, disk ownership, RAID-group, aggregate, volume, FlexVol, Snapshot, and space-accounting investigation.
  • Advanced Drive Partitioning (ADP) review, including root-data-data partition layout, spare capacity interpretation, and the operational impact of replacement or reassignment decisions.
  • NVMe and SAS disk-shelf troubleshooting, including cabling/path visibility, shelf module symptoms, drive faults, and multipath-related investigation where applicable.
  • Performance and availability evidence review using AutoSupport/log bundles and customer-provided outputs, including latency, queue, utilization, aggregate, and volume signals.
  • Change-risk review for planned ONTAP maintenance, controller or shelf work, and recovery preparation.

Common issues we resolve

A node does not complete normal boot.

We separate a failed or inconsistent boot device from ONTAP-root, loader, service-processor, or configuration problems before the team takes recovery action. An A300 boot symptom is not automatically a controller replacement event; the evidence around boot media, root volume state, and partner health determines the safest path.

Takeover is disabled, stalled, or giveback does not complete cleanly.

We trace the actual veto or blocking condition—such as aggregate state, disk ownership, interconnect health, outstanding operations, or a partner condition—rather than treating an HA message as a generic "failover problem."

An SSD replacement creates unexpected spare or aggregate capacity questions.

In an ADP layout, usable capacity is not a simple count of whole drives. We review partition ownership, root/data partitioning, spare requirements, and RAID-group state before an action turns a recoverable drive event into an avoidable availability risk.

A shelf or path issue appears as intermittent drive errors.

We correlate drive and shelf events with paths, cabling, IOM behavior, and controller-side visibility. Repeated "drive failed" alerts can originate upstream of the media itself.

An aggregate or volume suddenly has less usable space than expected.

We distinguish physical aggregate pressure from Snapshot retention, overwritten-reserve effects, thin provisioning, fractional reserve, guarantees, or workload growth. The corrective action should address the consuming layer—not just delete data under pressure.

A VMware or VDI workload reports latency while the array looks generally healthy.

We work from workload and protocol symptoms through volume, aggregate, and node evidence to identify contention, QoS behavior, host-side correlation points, and whether the problem is storage-path, capacity, or application driven.

What's out of scope

  • No NetApp software license transfers.

    Azroth cannot transfer, assign, or create NetApp software licenses or feature entitlements.

  • No new firmware entitlement.

    We do not provide NetApp firmware, software images, patches, or access to OEM downloads for which the customer is not entitled.

  • Remote-only by default.

    Support is delivered remotely. Onsite hardware work is available only when a qualified field-service partner is engaged and the required parts, access, and change controls are in place.

We do not represent NetApp, override OEM support terms, or certify a configuration that has not been validated against the customer's environment and recovery requirements.

Yes—Azroth can provide independent lifecycle and technical support for the installed environment, subject to an assessment of its hardware condition, installed ONTAP release, component compatibility, and operational dependencies. We do not provide OEM software or firmware entitlement.

Can you tell us whether a specific ONTAP 9.x update is appropriate for our A300?

We can assess the technical risk and compatibility considerations for your installed controllers, shelves, drives, and configuration. Any use of NetApp-provided software, firmware, or entitlement remains subject to your organization's rights and NetApp's documentation.

Do you dispatch someone to replace an A300 SSD or controller?

Azroth is remote-only unless a field-service partner is engaged. We can help scope the event, validate the replacement plan, and guide the technical workflow with the authorized onsite party.
